Mumbai: Jagannath Gangaram Pednekar Jewellers has designed and crafted a bejewelled golden crown for the revered deity at Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai. The jewellery brand, which has been creating ornamental pieces for the temple over the past 10-15 years, was given this opportunity by a group of devotees who made a donation to the temple. The 600-gram, 22kt hallmarked gold crown is one of the many projects undertaken by the jeweller as part of its long-standing dedication to temple adornments.
“The process of crafting the ornament took nearly three months and comprised several stages of discussion and reworks. The donors wanted us to conceptualize the design and all the details from scratch, and we proceeded,” said a spokesperson from Jagannath Gangaram Pednekar Jewellers.
The initial design drew inspiration from floral and elephant motifs, with rubies and emeralds enhancing its visual appeal. After multiple iterations, the final design was confirmed, and the crafting process began. The basic framework was completed in about a month once the necessary approvals were in place. A fitting trial was then conducted at the temple before proceeding with the final creation, which took another two months to complete.
The brand emphasized that its association with the Siddhivinayak Temple was driven by a desire to serve the community rather than for commercial gain. “For us, it is a matter of belief, and in serving God, we wanted to be able to serve the community,” said the spokesperson. However, the initiative gained visibility organically through social media, providing the brand with enhanced recognition and recall value among customers.
In the past, the jeweller has crafted several diamond-studded jewellery pieces for the Siddhivinayak idol. Over the last 7-8 years, the jeweller has also crafted multiple ornaments for the idol of Goddess Mahalaxmi, including three studded with diamonds, besides silver idol stands, each weighing nearly 30 kilograms, for the Mahalaxmi Temple in Mumbai. “Despite the temple being exposed to the sea breeze, the jewellery has still retained its shine,” the spokesperson noted. The brand has also crafted elaborate silver items for the GSB Seva Mandal in the city.
Jagannath Gangaram Pednekar Jewellers operates multiple stores across Maharashtra. In Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, its stores are located at Dadar, Mulund, Goregaon, Dombivali, Vashi and Panvel. The brand also has a presence in Ratnagiri district.
