India’s polished exports up sharply in October 2018

Data released by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and quoted by Diamond World shows that India’s polished diamond exports rose by 19.37%, totaling $2.31 billion.
Rough imports rose 22.71% to $990.09 million. In volume terms, rough imports increased to 9.66 million carats, compared with 9.44 million carats in October 2017. At the same time, imports of cut and polished diamonds were down 33.12% to $92.11 million. As for colored gemstone exports, these totaled $23.57 million – up by 14.81% year-on-year. Gold jewelry exports (both studded and plain) were up by 8.72% during the month of October.
From April to October 2018, polished diamond exports went up by 8.37% to $14.99 billion, while imports of polished diamonds fell by 35.9% to $860.71 million.
