Surat: Surat-based industrialist and Rajya Sabha member Govind Dholakia has come forward with a gesture of appreciation for Team India after their historic victory in the ICC Women’s World Cup finals over South Africa on November 2. Dholakia, Founder and Chairman emeritus of Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK), has pledged to reward each member of the champion team with handcrafted natural diamond jewellery and rooftop solar panels for their homes.
Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian women’s cricket team secured its first-ever World Cup title with a 52-run victory over South Africa at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Ahead of the final match, Dholakia had written to BCCI honorary vice president Rajeev Shukla expressing his wish to recognize the team’s achievements through gifts that symbolize both brilliance and sustainability. “To celebrate their extraordinary journey, we at Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK) would be honoured to present each member of the champion Indian team with handcrafted natural diamond jewellery – a token of appreciation for their brilliance and resilience,” the letter stated. “Along with this, we would also like to gift rooftop solar panels for their homes, so that the light they bring to our nation continues to shine in their own lives as well,” it said.
Speaking about the initiative, Dholakia said that the women cricketers representing India had already won the hearts of a billion Indians with their courage, discipline and determination. He added that the gesture reflects their shared belief that “true success must uplift both people and the planet”.
