The stage was set, lights were dimmed and the Lakmé Fashion Week 2019 unveiled a never-seen-before confluence of fashion and jewellery at Jio Garden in Mumbai. The event, in association with Diamond Producers Association (DPA) commenced with video teasers of Lakme and Diamond Producers Association’s impactful campaigns.

Praising the initiatives of DPA on natural diamonds, the show kick-started with a line-up of prêt wear by designer Saaksha and Kinni and adorned by Orra and A.S. Motiwala. With an interesting blend of jeans and other fabrics, the designer brand flaunted stunning everyday wear diamond jewellery. The off-the-rack look matched perfectly with the lightweight designs.

Raghu of Kirtilals, Shazia Motiwala of A.S.Motiwala, Rupal Singhal of Orra and Rajeshwary Singh of SENCO mentioned how the story of natural diamonds is getting heard and learnt more and more, courtesy the sensitization programs of DPA. The designers stressed how this collaboration between mainstream fashion and jewellery industry will definitely set new benchmarks of luxurious fashion.

Next came the turn of Om Jewellers and SENCO, who presented a stunning range of necklaces, ear drops and earrings married with colourful head gear. The chic design was spot-on for a summer look. Sonal Verma of designer brand Rara Avis took a bow for the eye-catching designs.

Showstopper Urvashi Rautela sealed the final walk on the ramp for Kirtilals and Chiripal Jewellers. Recreating the historical aura of Mughal empress Jahanara Begum, the line-up showcased an array of regal Mughalesque outfits complimented with bold and dazzling neck pieces, round ear drops, maangtika and tiara. The conspicuous handcrafted embroidery was praised as designer Anjali Patel Mehta of brand Verandah accompanied Rautela and fellow models on the ramp.

Richa Singh, managing director of DPA India, said these dynamic jewellery brands will get immense exposure from a disruptive platform such as ‘The Real Cut’.  “Diamonds are an integral part of Indian fashion enhancing every look, bridal or everyday pret wear, so it made perfect sense for us to partner with Lakmé Fashion Week which is the country’s leading fashion & lifestyle platform. I was excited by the diverse designs showcased by all the talented emerging Diamond jewellery designers from across India. I look forward to seeing their trend-setting winning collections on the runway which will beautifully highlight the fit of everyday wear diamond jewellery with contemporary outfits,” Singh said.
