Kohima: Mia by Tanishq has made a statement entry into Nagaland through its role as official style partner at the 2025 Hornbill Festival, marking its first on-ground presence in the State through its most popular cultural festival. The brand does not yet have a standalone store in Nagaland, though its products are available at the Tanishq outlet in Dimapur.

The Hornbill Festival, being held from December 1 to 10 at Kisama Heritage Village, near Kohima, brings together performances, crafts, games, exhibitions and cultural showcases from all of Nagaland’s different tribes. The event draws visitors from India and overseas and is a key part of the State’s tourism calendar. Mia is using the festival to introduce its identity to local audiences and build visibility across the wider North East.

Ajay Maurya, Head -Category and Marketing, Mia by Tanishq, says the association represents the brand’s first step into the region. “We want to stand for culture curation and self-expression. Our aim is to ensure that the expression born from this association doesn’t remain limited to Nagaland but resonates across the wider North East. And over time, this could naturally lead to business expansion, including new retail outlets,” Maurya explains.

Mia is currently scouting locations for its first standalone store in Nagaland. The brand has four stores in Guwahati and a presence in parts of Meghalaya. “Nagaland will be our next entry as soon as we secure the right space,” Maurya asserts.

The brand has over 270 stores across India, up from 120 two years ago. Around 90% of its business comes from physical outlets, though its online business has seen a recovery.

Maurya says the festival offers a suitable platform to build recall in the State. “The Hornbill Festival attracts people who are fashion-forward and style-driven. This is our chance to show them there’s a brand that matches their style quotient, resonates with their aesthetic, and can genuinely stand for them,” he says.

As part of the collaboration, Mia has partnered with four women creators from Nagaland and the North East: guitarist Imnainla Jamir; biker and content creator Onen Nenty; teen vocalist Luli Yeptho from the band Trance; and fashion creator Imlisen Pongen. They will wear and promote Mia jewellery across performances, rides and digital content during the festival. Maurya says the idea is to highlight women excelling across music, performance, motorbiking and fashion.

Mia has also released three silver pendants inspired by the hornbill, the motif being an inverted sickle and a feather, using colours from the Nagaland State flag. The pieces will be available nationwide through the brand’s website.

Digital engagement will form a major part of the rollout, complementing the on-ground presence. “We make the noise in Nagaland, but the drums will be heard across the country,” Maurya says.

Meanwhile, Mia is also the principal sponsor of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the Women’s Premier League. Maurya says both associations emphasize the theme of women’s self-expression.“In cricket, a sport long dominated by men, women are now standing tall and making the country proud. Similarly, Naga women have a rich, distinctive culture of style, jewellery and adornment. Their form of self-expression is unique, and Mia aims to bring that to the forefront,” he says. “Mia’s role is to give this style and expression a pedestal and place it on a national stage.”

Born with the heritage and the legacy of Tanishq, Mia is a brand of bold, modern and chic jewellery made for the young, the young at heart and the stylish, crafted in 18kt and 14kt gold. Mia has a network of 250+ exclusive stores and is present in leading Tanishq stores across 75 cities within India. It has an international presence with three stores in the UAE.
