Kolkata: Bhuramal Rajmal Surana Johuree joined hands with Indian classical vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty for her recent presentation at Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium in Kolkata, extending the brand’s long-running association with classical music. “Our family has been always deeply associated with classical music promotion,” said Chandra Surana, Owner & CEO, Bhuramal Rajmal Surana Johuree.

The engagement followed an earlier staging of the programme in Jaipur. Surana said the decision to participate arose from an ongoing relationship with the artist and her family. “We have a very deep connect with the artist and her family,” he noted, calling the Kolkata presentation a continuation of their long-standing cultural involvement.

For the performance, Chakraborty wore jadau jewellery with polki from the brand’s existing seasonal collection. The styling process involved coordination between the artist and Surana’s daughter, Urvashi Surana Shaw, who oversees the Kolkata retail operations. Chakraborty shared her costume details in advance, and the final selection was made jointly. “Jadau polki has been part of our family craft for generations,” Surana said, adding that the aesthetic aligned closely with the artist’s traditional repertoire.

The jewellery chosen for the evening required no new creation, aside from minor variations within the existing line. Surana explained that the house is selective about making its pieces available for public appearances and evaluates each request based on how well the individual’s artistic background aligns with the brand’s ethos. He described Chakraborty as one of the foremost artistes of her generation, which made the association a natural fit.

Surana also pointed out that the programme attracted an audience attuned to classical art forms, making the context appropriate for showcasing the craftsmanship of the brand’s heritage jewellery. “It reaches an audience that is young, aware and appreciative of quality,” he said.

The brand did not promote the programme among its customers, as the event was a ticketed presentation organized independently. The artiste’s team handled their own promotional activity. Surana stressed that the jeweller’s involvement remained measured and purpose-driven.

There was no formal commercial arrangement governing the artiste’s use of the jewellery. The look received positive feedback from attendees, reflecting the compatibility between jadau polki jewellery and the aesthetic of classical performance.

Surana added that his family has a long history of organizing classical concerts in Kolkata and Jaipur, and this association falls within that broader cultural engagement. The brand will continue to consider similar opportunities with the same selective approach. “It must align with our ethos,” Surana said.

The heritage jewellery brand operates three stores in Jaipur, Kolkata and Bengaluru.
