Mumbai: The Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI) marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 13th Foundation Day with a series of inspiring events, including the JOSH convocation ceremony, and official recognition of the Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ), Delhi as a centre of excellence.
Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest was Dnyaneshwar B. Patil, IAS, Development Commissioner, SEEPZ-SEZ. He was joined by Ekta Upadhyay, Director, Academic Administration, IIGJ Mumbai, as Special Guest, along with Rajeev Garg, Executive Director & CEO of GJSCI, and Kiran Padture, General Manager Operations, GJSCI.
The JOSH convocation ceremony had more than 250 attendees, as the 5th batch of specially-abled persons (SAP) and the 11th batch of regular candidates were felicitated. A highlight was the successful placement of all SAP graduates with Jewelex India Ltd., represented at the event by Samta Jain, Chief People Officer-HR at Jewelex. A majority of the regular batch has also secured placements within the jewellery manufacturing hub Santacruz Electronic Export Processing Unit(SEEPZ), thanks to strong industry collaborations facilitated by GJSCI.
Adding to the celebration was a major recognition — IIGJ Delhi was officially named a centre of excellence for a three-year term. The newly renovated institute, featuring modern infrastructure, earned this distinction for its excellence in training and education in the gems and jewellery sector. Ekta Upadhyay received the certificate on behalf of IIGJ Delhi.
In a heartfelt tribute to dedication and loyalty, employees who have served GJSCI for 10 years or more were honoured with Long Service Awards, presented by Patil in the presence of the institution’s senior leadership. These individuals have played a vital role in shaping the organization since its inception in 2012.
GJSCI’s 13th Foundation Day not only celebrated its rich legacy but also reinforced its continued commitment to empowering talent and excellence in India’s gems and jewellery industry.
Formed in 2012 under the aegis of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and currently functioning under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), the Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI) is the nodal entity for skill development of the Indian gems &jewellery industry.It covers skilling under all areas and functions of the industry such as diamond processing, coloured gemstone processing, jewellery manufacturing, wholesale, retail and exports. It is engaged in the creation of an organized training and development ecosystem in the industry to produce a skilled workforce at par with global quality standards.
