Jaipur: Bvlgari Creative Director Lucia Silvestri and global brand ambassador Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently journeyed to Jaipur, the heart of India’s coloured gemstone industry, to source gemstones that will serve as the creative spark for the next chapter of the maison’s high jewellery collection, Polychroma. Bvlgari and National Geographic have come together to unveil a documentary on this colourful journey, offering a rare glimpse into the maison’s design process.

Bvlgari’s creations are defined by vibrant colour and bold story-telling. Lucia Silvestri, a revered figure in the global jewellery world with over 40 visits to Jaipur throughout her career, sees the city not merely as a sourcing destination but as a cultural canvas of colour and craftsmanship. “The moment I see the right stone, I already begin to dream,” she shared during her latest visit. “There is something about colour—it evokes memories, sparks ideas, and brings the design to life before pencil ever touches paper.”

Joining her on this journey was Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who returned to her home country as a creative witness to Bvlgari’s design genesis. Immersed in Jaipur’s gem workshops and vibrant culture, she explored the intricate art of gemstone cutting and selection—a process that marries intuition with deep artisanal skill.

“Coming back to India, and to Jaipur in particular, in this context felt deeply personal,” said Chopra Jonas. “To be part of the earliest phase of such exquisite craftsmanship was inspiring and grounding.”

The visit also underscored Bvlgari’s longstanding partnership with Jaipur’s gemstone community—relationships Silvestri has cultivated over decades through mutual respect and a shared dedication to excellence. From intimate conversations with master gem traders to moments of creative exchange in historic palaces, the experience brought to light the emotional and cultural depth behind each piece of Bvlgari’s high jewellery.

Once selected, the gemstones embark on their journey to Rome, where they are laid out on Silvestri’s design table for meticulous orchestration: stones are arranged, rearranged, and contemplated until the perfect harmony is found. From there, sketches are developed, and the baton is passed to Bvlgari’s master artisans, who translate the vision into high jewellery.

This unique collaboration between Silvestri and Chopra Jonas in Jaipur exemplifies Bvlgari’s global design ethos: a harmonious blend of Italian creativity and Indian heritage, fuelled by colour as both material and metaphor.

As Bvlgari’s Polychroma collection continues to receive international acclaim since its unveiling in May, the Jaipur chapter serves as a powerful reminder of where the magic truly begins—in the intimate dialogue between gemstones, culture and imagination.
