A big fashion statement back in the 2010s, the cross pendant has returned, and this time it is bigger and bolder than ever

Jewellery in 2024 has embarked on a nostalgic journey, resurrecting a kaleidoscope of retro trends. From chokers and chunky cuff earrings to heavy statement pearl pieces, the year pulsates with vintage inspiration. Among these revivals, one unexpected comeback has captivated global jewellery designers—the iconic cross pendant.

Garrard

The cross pendant’s resurgence reached a pivotal moment when Kim Kardashian attended the LACMA Art + Film Gala wearing a stunning piece by Garrard, England’s prestigious crown jeweller. The culturally significant Attallah Cross necklace holds profound historical resonance, as it was famously worn by Princess Diana at a charity ball in 1987.

Florence-based designer Emanuele Bicocchi brings a touch of sprezzatura—the Italian art of making complexity appear effortless—to his Gothic Rosary Necklace collection. The intricately crafted silver cross pendants have been worn by celebrities such as Zayn Malik and Russell Brand.

Mikimoto

Mikimoto, the Japanese house of cultured pearls, partnered with the luxury label Chrome Hearts to launch the Mikimoto Chrome Hearts Core Collection. Standout designs include a safety-pin brooch engraved with a Maltese cross and accented with pearls, a pearl lariat with the Chrome Hearts “Baby Fat” cross emblem, and silver spikes that add an edgy, contemporary twist.

Eva Fehren

Eva Fehren has distinguished herself with bold reinterpretations of the cross symbol. Using an exquisite palette of white and black diamonds set in blackened white gold, rose gold, yellow gold, and platinum, Fehren’s creations achieve a remarkable balance—simultaneously embodying symmetry, elegance, boldness, and purity.
