House of Poonam Soni takes part in mangrove conservation drive in Mumbai, engaging over 1,850 volunteers
Brand founder, Poonam Soni, praised dedicated efforts of volunteers to ensure the event turns out to be a success
Mumbai – More than 1,850 young volunteers from Bharat Soka Gakkai (BSG) and Swachha Vasundhara Abhiyaan joined forces on International Coastal Cleanup Day as part of an initiative to safeguard Mumbai’s vital mangrove ecosystems. The event took place at Carter Road Beach and underscored the essential role of mangroves in combating climate change and preserving biodiversity.
Often referred to as “coastal superheroes,” mangroves are increasingly threatened by pollution, deforestation, and unsustainable practices. The young participants demonstrated their commitment to sustainable living through their active involvement in this initiative, recognising that individual actions can have a significant impact on the environment.
Poonam Soni, founder of the luxury brand, House of Poonam Soni, praised the efforts of the volunteers and other organisations involved. “Through this initiative, we are securing our future, our environment, and our Earth,” she said.
Also present was renowned Bollywood choreographer Terence Lewis, who addressed the volunteers, emphasising the importance of environmental stewardship. “By participating in this drive, you’ve learned about the extent of plastic waste, especially single-use plastics,” he stated.
The drive not only succeeded in cleaning up marine debris but also fostered a sense of environmental responsibility among participants. As future leaders, these young advocates are poised to inspire others in the movement for a cleaner, healthier planet.
This initiative aimed to promote sustainable human behaviour as a lifestyle, encouraging participants to genuinely care for the environment and consider the well-being of all living beings. Vishesh Gupta, Chairperson of Bharat Soka Gakkai, emphasized, “Sustainable human behaviour begins with respect for nature. Cleaning beaches isn’t just about trash removal; it’s about redefining our relationship with the environment and adopting sustainable habits.”
