MUMBAI: At the glamorous night of Retail Jeweller India Awards 2024, which took place in Mumbai on August 10, 2024, presenting partner FURA Gems shared a brief insight into the miner’s future plans and increasing confidence in the Indian Industry’s acceptance of colour gemstones, both in the form of trend and business.

Gaurav Gupta, Chairman, FURA Gems, praised the importance of the RJIA platform in successfully linking the supply chain to a congregation of national prestige. “I find it to be a great platform. I’m attending the awards for the first time but I already see a strong network of the entire supply chain present here. RJIA brings together different stakeholders from the industry such as retailers, the jewellery manufacturers, the colour gemstone miners like us, the diamantaires, players in the precious metal category, and prestigious jury members, who are HNI connoisseurs of fine jewellery. Thus, it contributes a lot as a common platform,” said Gupta.

Gupta expressed optimism in the way different retailers are prioritising colour gemstones across points of sale. “I’m happy to see that colour gemstones are getting a lot of traction now. Colour gemstones had a rich history of success in India. There was a lull when diamonds came in and everyone went for diamonds. Now, colours are back and they are the flavour. So, we expect that India picks up the trend of colour gemstones in a new way,” he maintained.

The FURA chairman discussed the provenance system by the mining platform, which has been passing the faith down to the end-consumers. “With our mine-to-market system, we ensure that ESG standards are followed, each stone is ethically mined and can be traced back to the origin,” he added.

FURA Gems is currently exploring the mines in Madagascar, with bulk sampling underway. The chairman estimated that by the end of Q1 of 2025, FURA Gems will make a headway in that region. Gupta also spoke profoundly of the success of their national Celebration sapphires campaign, which has spread their network to across 18 states in India. “During my visit to Mumbai, I’ve met manufacturers and retailers dealing with the range, and I see their palpable excitement. Let’s continue driving colours in the market, as colours are the essence of life and diversity that India’s gem and jewellery industry needs,” Gupta concluded.
