Hardik Prajapati highlights AI’s revolutionary usage in jewellery designing
The session showcased the importance of AI prompts, assures CAD-to-Image conversions with appropriate prompts
Mumbai: At the IIJS Premier 2024 on August 9, Hardik Prajapati, Founder of HP Design Studio, delivered a captivating presentation on the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in jewellery design. His session, titled “AI for the Jewellery Industry,” provided a comprehensive overview of how AI is streamlining design processes and expanding creative possibilities within the industry.
Prajapati demonstrated several AI tools that are becoming game-changers for jewellery designers. He introduced platforms such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Runway AI, explaining how they allow designers to produce intricate jewellery designs with remarkable speed and accuracy.
A key focus of Prajapati’s presentation was the role of AI prompts. He demonstrated how specific prompts can lead to the creation of numerous design variations in mere seconds—an achievement that traditionally required days of manual work. By utilising the right prompts, designers can efficiently generate and refine their desired designs.
One significant challenge retailers face is the conversion of CAD designs into appealing online images. CAD designs often do not translate well to digital platforms, and producing physical samples for every design is not always feasible. Prajapati pointed out how AI tools, with features such as ‘upload image for reference’ and strategic prompts can address this issue by creating realistic images from CAD designs. This capability enables retailers to showcase designs more effectively and engage with customers online.
One standout example was Prajapati’s project with a client titled ‘Hip Hop jewellery’. Using AI, he was able to generate various design concepts based on strategic prompts, which traditionally would have taken much longer. The AI generated designs were then converted into tangible pieces, by the client.
Despite these advancements, Prajapati emphasised that AI is not replacing human designers but rather complementing their skills. While AI tools can produce impressive prototypes, the expertise of a designer is crucial for finalizing and perfecting these designs. The human touch ensures that designs are not only innovative but also practical and manufacturable.
