Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers launches ‘Banglar Sona’ honour for Bengal’s cultural achievers

The recognition is meant for outstanding contributions to Bengal’s cultural legacy, with an acclaimed composer and violinist becoming its first recipient

Kolkata: Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers has launched an award property titled ‘Banglar Sona’, aimed at recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions to Bengal’s cultural heritage. Celebrated music composer and violinist Debojyoti Mishra became the first recipient of the honour during the cultural programme ‘Robi’r Aloye Satyajit’, organized by the jeweller at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata.

The programme celebrated three decades of Mishra’s musical journey while exploring the influence of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore on the cinematic works of acclaimed film-maker Satyajit Ray. The evening featured performances by noted artistes including Srikanto Acharya, Jayati Chakraborty, Upal Sengupta, Saheb Chatterjee, Anwesha Datta Gupta and Sreenanda Shankar.

The inaugural ‘Banglar Sona’ honour was presented on stage to Mishra by Arpita Saha, Director, Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers.

Speaking on the occasion, Arpita Saha, Director, Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers, said Debojyoti Mishra was “worth his weight in gold” and described him as a “legend in the making”. She expressed confidence that his extraordinary musical journey would continue to enrich Bengal’s cultural landscape.

Expressing his gratitude after receiving the honour, Mishra said he felt deeply honoured by the recognition and appreciated Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers for instituting such a thoughtful initiative. He described the award as a symbolic reflection of the love and appreciation he has received from audiences over the years.

Artistes present at the ceremony declared Mishra truly deserving of the recognition for his immense contribution to music. They also lauded ‘Banglar Sona’, describing it as a meaningful platform to celebrate excellence and inspire future generations.

According to the organizers, Banglar Sona has been conceived as a long-term initiative to periodically honour distinguished personalities across diverse fields, recognizing achievements that continue to enrich Bengal’s cultural and intellectual legacy.
