According to the company, jewellery grading is contributing to its growth, accounting for up to 47% of its total revenue increase
Mumbai: HRD Antwerp has opened its renovated and expanded laboratory at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai, increasing the facility’s diamond grading capacity by 30% to up to 2,000 diamonds per day. The facility was inaugurated by Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever during his recent visit to India.
The expansion also increases HRD Antwerp’s research capacity in Mumbai by 30%. The company is recruiting additional full-time employees to support the expanded operations. The laboratory provides grading services for natural diamonds and jewellery.
According to HRD Antwerp, India accounts for 59% of the group’s total revenue. The Indian branch is expected to grow by 15.4% in 2026, compared with projected group growth of 12.6%. Jewellery grading is also contributing to the company’s growth, accounting for up to 47% of its total revenue increase.
HRD Antwerp CEO Paul De Wachter said the investment reflects the importance of India to the international diamond industry. India remains a major centre for diamond cutting and trading, with demand for independent diamond grading supporting the company’s expansion in the country.
HRD Antwerp has operated in India since 2012 and currently serves around 1,500 clients in the country, including jewellery manufacturers and retailers, as well as companies involved in producing and trading cut diamonds. Its Indian regional presence includes Surat, Jaipur, Kolkata, New Delhi, Hyderabad and the Mega CFC of SEEPZ, in addition to the expanded Mumbai laboratory.
HRD Antwerp is Europe’s leading authority on diamond grading, jewellery grading and education. It was established in 1973 as the Hoge Raad voor Diamant (Diamond High Council) in Antwerp, Belgium. Restructuring in 2007 split the organization into the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) and HRD Antwerp, which handles commercial certification and grading. Its core services include analysing loose diamonds and finished jewellery for the 4 C’s (carat, colour, clarity and cut) to issue secure grading reports.
