Long-term diaspora ties help Bengal Jewellery go beyond business in the US and Canada

By showing up year after year at key NRI Bengali cultural events like the North American Bengali Conference (NABC) and Kallol NJ, the heritage jewellery brand has cultivated community ties that extend beyond jewellery into shared identity and memory

Toronto: Bengal Jewellery participated in two major NRI Bengali cultural events recently— the North American Bengali Conference (NABC) 2025 in Toronto and the golden jubilee celebration of Kallol NJ in New Jersey, marking 27 and 25 years of association with the events respectively.

At the NABC, held at the Metro Convention Centre in Toronto, the brand exhibited from a prime booth location. This was its 27th consecutive year at the conference, making it one of the few jewellers and institutions from the SAARC region with such a long-term association. The event drew participants from across the United States and Canada.

As part of the community programming, members of the Bengal Jewellery Parivar were present during the fourth edition of the Bengal Asok Award. The ceremony was also featured in the July 2025 edition of Sangbad Bichitra, the official publication of the Cultural Association of Bengal, New York.

“This is not just about showing up every year,” said Sradhya Roy, Senior Public Relations and Marketing Manager, Bengal Jewellery LLP. “The relationships we’ve built at events like NABC go back decades. For many families who visit our booth, we’ve been part of their story since their first conference.”

A week later, the brand participated in the Golden Jubilee of Kallol NJ, held on July 12 and 13 at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in Somerset, New Jersey. Kallol is one of the oldest Bengali cultural organizations in the United States. Bengal Jewellery’s presence included both an exhibitor booth and a dedicated brand showcase on the stage used for cultural performances.

The two events differed in scale, with NABC attracting a broader cross-border audience and Kallol serving a more regional base. However, the brand reported consistent engagement at both locations, with many long-time patrons revisiting the booth.

“These aren’t marketing exercises for us,” said Roy. “Our presence is about continuity and shared history. Over the years, people have come to associate our name with familiarity. They stop by not just to see what’s new, but to reconnect.”

She also noted the evolving role of the younger generation within the company. “The fourth generation in our family is now engaged in nurturing these connections. It’s no longer just about those who started it. It’s about those who will carry it forward,” she observed.

Bengal Jewellery’s continued participation in diaspora-led events reflects its emphasis on cultural engagement alongside retail visibility. The brand considers these platforms essential for maintaining long-term relationships within the NRI Bengali community.

The heritage jeweller, which recently celebrated 100 years in the industry, operates four stores in Kolkata – located at City Centre 2, Gariahat, Girish Park and Kankurgachi.
