Kanpur: Ahead of the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya on January 22, demand for gold and silver coins with the imprint of Ram Temple and Ram Darbar has increased in Kanpur’s Sarafa market. Jewellers have received orders for 5,000 coins depicting Ram Temple and Ram Darbar (Ram with Lakshman, Sita and Hanuman) and 1,000 statues of Lord Ram of different sizes.

Some jewellers are also selling small gold coins with replicas of Ram Temple.

Pushpendra Jaiswal, General Secretary, Uttar Pradesh Jewellers’ Association, said that silver Ram Darbar is in great demand in the market. As per weight, the price of Ram Darbar silver coin ranges from Rs 900 to Rs 25,000, said Jaiswal. “Besides, there is also increased demand for the gold and silver coins with the model of Ram temple. Sarafa traders have designed Ram temple coins of silver and gold in bulk to meet the demand,’ he added.

Pankaj Arora, President, All India Jewellers and Goldsmiths Federation, said that they estimate that the consecration ceremony has generated a business of about Rs 800 crore in the city.

Arora said All India Jewellers and Goldsmiths Federation has decided to do something special on January 22 and for this, cooperation of all organizations has been sought. “The route starting from Phool Bagh up to Ghantaghar will be decorated on the Ram theme.
