The jeweller’s aim was to restore freedom and personal dignity to those affected by accidents or health conditions. The Empowering Wheels, Empowering Lives’ initiative showed how businesses can help solve practical, everyday challenges faced by community members

Mumbai: Manubhai Jewellers recently extended its support to the Empowering Wheels, Empowering Lives initiative in collaboration with the Rotary Club, providing mobility aids to individuals with physical limitations. The initiative aimed not just to offer transport, but to restore independence, access, and personal dignity to those whose daily lives had been restricted due to accidents or health conditions.

As part of the programme, five beneficiaries were identified by the Rotary Club, each facing a unique challenge due to the loss of mobility. Manubhai Jewellers contributed electric scooters, specially built for differently abled individuals, to help them regain their ability to move around independently and continue their daily activities.

Samir Sagar, Director, Manubhai Jewellers, explained the brand’s objective behind the initiative, saying, “Honestly, it started with a simple thought that we meet and serve hundreds of people every week, and somewhere we’ve seen first-hand how tough life can get when mobility is lost. When the Rotary Club reached out with this idea, it just felt right. Giving someone the freedom to move on their own.”

The event was part of a broader local initiative organized by the Rotary Club. It included a formal stage ceremony where the recipients were introduced and handed the mobility aids in front of an engaged local audience. The event highlighted the role of partnerships between businesses and civic bodies in solving practical, everyday challenges faced by community members.

“For us, it’s always been about celebrating strength, be it through jewellery that marks a milestone, or through initiatives like this that restore someone’s independence,” declared Sagar.

While the initiative was not designed for publicity or commercial gain, the outcome did result in greater local engagement and appreciation for Manubhai Jewellers. “We didn’t really do it expecting attention or engagement,” said Sagar. “However, such initiatives always manage to generate an overall feeling of community building.”

As Manubhai Jewellers transitioned from an owner-operated business to a professionally managed one, it recognized the need to extend its responsibilities beyond customers and staff to the wider community. The brand’s involvement in the initiative aligns with its broader CSR vision, which has expanded alongside the company’s growth.

There are ongoing plans to support similar initiatives in the future, with a continued focus on contributing meaningfully to people’s lives through practical, community-driven efforts.

The five beneficiaries were selected by the Rotary Club based on need and suitability. Each case represented individuals who were eager to stay active and contribute, but were restricted due to physical constraints.

Established in 1993, Manubhai Jewellers began as a jewellery manufacturing and wholesale business in Gujarat. In 2008, the brand opened its first independent retail showroom in Borivali West, Mumbai. Today, it operates three stores—two in Borivali and one in Thane.
